NEW DELHI: The Delhi Police said on Thursday that it has busted the interstate "Tala Chabi" Sikligar gang operating in the city, with the arrest of three guys.
Joginder Singh, 29, of Indore, Madhya Pradesh, and Kartar Singh, 25, of the Parbhani area of Maharashtra have been named as the accused. Before breaking into residences all around the city, they would routinely travel from Madhya Pradesh to Delhi and stay in cheap hotels close to the Old and New Delhi Railway stations.
The police also detailed Abhinay Soni (41), from Barwani in Madhya Pradesh, who was the receiver of the stolen gold jewellery.
According to the police, an FIR was filed on February 18 based on a report that claimed the complainant's jewels and Rs. 2 lakh in cash were stolen from his home while he was in Haryana attending a wedding ceremony.
Using CCTV footage captured during the inquiry, the police squad tracked down the offenders. The video showed that the suspect changed cars twice, taking them from congested lanes, and used a convoluted strategy of meandering through various lanes to evade capture.
The gang ultimately left the stolen vehicle and used multiple modes of public transport before walking back to their hotel.
"The team sketched out the accused's and the incident's entry and exit points. Within a 15 km radius, more than 500 CCTV camera recordings were examined. According to Rohit Meena, the deputy commissioner of police (Shahdara), "the team traced the burglars to a place of stay in Old Delhi, which was more than 15 km away from the scene of the incident.
Joginder revealed the plan to the police, saying that they came from MP to Delhi and stayed in cheap hotels close to the Old and New Delhi Railway Stations. In Delhi, they worked as key makers during the daytime, and when someone phoned them for lock repair, they broke into the home, according to the DCP.
Moreover, it was stated, they check to see whether any residences are locked, making note of those that have been unlocked for two to three days before committing several night burglaries in those homes. They used to steal bikes and use them to carry out the burglaries before fleeing Delhi.
Abhinay, the recipient of the stolen jewellery, was also apprehended by police in connection with the case of the accused. The official announced that "about 100gm of gold, repairable equipment, and duplicate keys have been recovered."
"The accused are sought after in connection with burglaries in other states as well, and the identities they used to check into hotels were associated with addresses that they did not use. Additional inquiries are being conducted to determine their connection to other cases and other recipients of stolen property, the official said.
