On May 1, SpiceJet announced that it intended to run more flights from Saudi Arabia to various Indian locations in order to bring back those who had been evacuated from Sudan as part of "Operation Kaveri."
On April 30, the airline carried 184 stranded Indians who were trapped in Sudan on its first evacuation trip from Jeddah to Kochi.
To coordinate additional evacuation operations, the carrier stated in a release that it regularly communicates with the Ministry of External Affairs and the Indian Embassy in Saudi Arabia. The statement read, "More evacuation flights from Saudi Arabia to various cities in India are being planned."
The chairman and managing director of SpiceJet, Ajay Singh, stated, "We are humbled by the opportunity to help to the evacuation of Indians who are stranded in Sudan under 'Operation Kaveri'. SpiceJet is still dedicated to helping the government protect our residents and make it possible for them to return safely to their homes and families. We brought back 184 stranded Indian citizens on board our maiden evacuation flight, which we successfully managed from Jeddah. The administration and we are in contact about running more of these flights.
From Jeddah, the airline offers daily flights to Calicut, Delhi, and Mumbai. Riyadh to Delhi service is also offered every day. According to government statistics, 2,140 Indians have been returned from the war-torn Sudan as part of "Operation Kaveri."
In the past, SpiceJet has played a significant role in the government's evacuation and repatriation efforts. SpiceJet offered special flights to Budapest, Kosice, and Suceava as part of "Operation Ganga," aiding with the evacuation of more than 1,600 students. During the pandemic, SpiceJet was crucial in the repatriation of both foreigners and Indians.
Approximately 3,000 passengers of Indian descent will be evacuated from Sudan by the Union Government as part of Operation Kaveri.
As a result of battles between the army and paramilitary forces, there has been bloodshed in Sudan.
Soldiers loyal to Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, the commander of the Sudanese army, and Mohamed Hamdan Daglo, the head of the paramilitary Rapid Support Soldiers (RSF), have started fighting.
India has sent military aircraft and warships into the war-torn nation of Sudan as part of "Operation Kaveri" in an effort to ensure that no Indian national is left behind.
