Indian Railways has sanctioned Rs.509 crore for the construction of two major rail flyovers in Odisha's Cuttack and Rayagada districts. These projects aim to enhance operational efficiency and address congestion on critical railway routes.
In Cuttack district, a 10.89-km rail flyover connecting Rajathgarh, Radhakishorepur, and Machhapur railway stations will be built at an estimated cost of Rs.268.92 crore. This project will facilitate simultaneous train movements, reducing delays caused by cross-traffic at these key junctions.
In addition, a Rs.240-crore project for a 5.5-km rail flyover on the Raipur-Vizianagaram line under the Waltair division of East Coast Railway (ECoR) has been approved. The flyover will streamline train traffic along the Singapore Road-Rayagada section, known for its capacity constraints and bottlenecks.
A railways statement highlighted the seamless merging of trains with the loop line at Singapur Road, enhancing operations on this energy, mineral, and cement corridor. "These flyovers will significantly improve train operations in the Khurda Road and Waltair divisions, resolving traffic bottlenecks at major junctions," a senior railway official said.
The new infrastructure will provide dedicated paths for trains coming from different directions, ensuring smoother operations, reduced travel times, and an improved passenger experience.
In another development, significant yard restructuring work is underway at Bhadrak railway station to boost train management and operational efficiency. This project, coupled with ongoing construction of a third railway line in the Bhadrak-Ranital section, will minimize train delays and enhance overall service quality. Non-interlocking work will be executed to ensure smooth train passage at Bhadrak station.
