Jaipur, Rajasthan - The iconic MiG-21 Bison fighter aircraft took its poignant final flight in the Indian Air Force's colors as three remaining squadrons soared over the majestic Barmer district in Rajasthan on Tuesday. This historic event marked the end of an era, and the Indian Air Force bid a heartfelt adieu to the venerable aircraft.

Accompanied by the powerful Su-30 MKI, the MiG-21 Bison's swansong was witnessed by personnel from all branches of the military during a poignant farewell ceremony held in the Uttarlai region. These Russian-made MiG-21s have been an integral part of India's air defense capability for nearly six decades and played a pivotal role in several India-Pakistan conflicts during this time.

The "OORIALS" squadron, which has been flying the MiG-21 since 1966, is currently in the process of transitioning to the state-of-the-art Sukhoi-30 MKI aircraft. This transition exemplifies the Indian Air Force's unwavering commitment to modernization and ensuring the nation's airspace security.

The MiG-21 Bison squadron based at Air Force Station Utarlai has now successfully completed its transition to the Su-30 MKI fighter, marking a significant milestone. Presently, the Indian Air Force maintains operational readiness with two squadrons of the MiG-21 Bison.
