After India's eight-wicket defeat to New Zealand in the first Test, captain Rohit Sharma acknowledged that "games like these" occur in cricket. He emphasized the importance of moving forward as a team and preparing for the upcoming Tests.

The match at Bengaluru witnessed an impressive performance from New Zealand players Rachin Ravindra, Matt Henry, and William O'Rourke, who helped secure their first Test victory in India since 1988. Despite India showing resilience in their second innings after a dismal first innings, the Kiwis emerged victorious on Sunday.

Rohit noted the team's second-innings effort, stating, "We did not bat well in the first innings. A couple of guys stood out when you are 350 runs behind. You can't think too much about it; just got to see the ball and bat." He praised the batting performances of Rishabh Pant and Sarfaraz Khan, who showcased maturity under pressure.

Chasing a target of 107 runs, India's Jasprit Bumrah put up a fight with bowling figures of 2/29. However, Will Young (48*) and Rachin (39*) guided New Zealand to a comfortable victory.

In their second innings, India managed to score 462 runs, establishing a 106-run lead after responding to New Zealand's first-innings total of 402. The opening partnership between Yashasvi Jaiswal (35) and Rohit Sharma (52) set a strong foundation with a 72-run stand. Sarfaraz Khan then excelled, contributing a crucial 150 runs, partnering with Virat Kohli (70) and Rishabh Pant (99) to build substantial leads. However, India's middle order collapsed, losing seven wickets for just 54 runs as New Zealand capitalized on the new ball.

In their first innings, New Zealand scored 402, led by a remarkable century from Rachin Ravindra (134) and a quick 65 from Tim Southee. Devon Conway also made a significant contribution with 91 runs. India’s bowlers Ravindra Jadeja (3/72) and Kuldeep Yadav (3/99) delivered strong performances, while Mohammed Siraj picked up two wickets.

India faced a challenging start to the match, bowled out for only 46 runs in their first innings under difficult conditions. Henry (5/15) and O'Rourke (4/22) wreaked havoc on the Indian batting lineup, with only Jaiswal (13) and Pant (20) managing to score in double figures.
