Lucknow: Following a significant win in the recent Assembly by-elections across seven states, Uttar Pradesh Congress president Ajay Rai declared on Saturday that the INDIA bloc will triumph in future elections and foresees the downfall of the BJP.
In the by-elections held across seven states, the INDIA bloc secured 10 out of 13 seats, marking a decisive setback for the BJP, which won only two seats. Rai emphasized the victory by stating, "The INDIA bloc's success in these elections, including wins in Ayodhya and Badrinath, sends a clear message. With divine blessings on the INDIA alliance and Congress, we are set to eradicate the BJP from every corner and emerge victorious in all future elections."
Rai also criticized the BJP's recent decision to observe June 25 as 'Samvidhan Hatya Divas,' accusing the party of attempting to mislead the public. He argued that pressing issues such as NEET, Agniveer, inflation, and unemployment have troubled the populace, which has responded by supporting the INDIA bloc in these by-elections.
The by-poll results were notably unfavorable for the BJP. Out of 13 contested seats, the INDIA bloc won 10, with an independent candidate securing a seat in Bihar. Congress made notable gains, winning two of the three seats in Himachal Pradesh and two seats in Uttarakhand. These victories strengthen the Congress-led Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu government in Himachal Pradesh, which now holds 40 MLAs compared to the BJP's 28.
Polling for these assembly seats took place on July 10 in seven states: Bihar, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, and Himachal Pradesh.
Congress General Secretary (Organisation) KC Venugopal echoed Rai’s sentiments, stating that the by-election results represent a substantial victory for democracy and a strong rebuke to the BJP’s divisive politics. Venugopal noted, "The by-poll results are a clear affirmation of democracy and a significant rejection of the BJP’s anti-people, anti-youth policies. The INDIA alliance’s impressive performance, winning 10 out of 13 seats, underscores the public’s discontent with the BJP’s approach."
