New Delhi: India Alliance has declared a massive rally in Delhi to protest the arrest of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. A joint press conference by leaders of the Aam Aadmi Party and Congress Party announced this event, which will take place at Ramlila Maidan in the capital on March 31.
Addressing the media, leaders of both parties expressed concern over what they termed as a dictatorial attitude of the Prime Minister within the country, leading to the erosion of democracy. They emphasized that the arrest of the Chief Minister of Delhi has sparked anger among citizens who cherish the Constitution and democracy.
Furthermore, opposition leaders accused the government of orchestrating a systematic crackdown on opposition voices across the country. They highlighted instances of alleged misuse of governmental agencies, inducements to lawmakers, and fabrication of charges to stifle dissent. They cited examples from various states, including the recent arrest of the Jharkhand Chief Minister, as evidence of a concerted effort to suppress opposition voices.
The leaders criticized the current situation in Delhi, stating that it resembles a cantonment despite the implementation of the Election Commission Model Code of Conduct. They questioned the sealing of the national office of the Aam Aadmi Party and refuted allegations of corruption against opposition leaders, citing a Supreme Court ruling that dismissed such claims.
In addition, they pointed out a money trail of Rs 60 crore revealed in the Election Commission's records, questioning the silence of BJP leaders on the matter. They called upon the people of Delhi and the nation to join the rally at Ramlila Maidan on March 31 at 10 am to voice their opposition against what they perceive as dictatorship.
AAP leader Gopal Rai affirmed the participation of prominent leaders from parties affiliated with the India Alliance in the mega rally. Meanwhile, Congress leader Arvinder Singh Lovely underscored the party's commitment to fighting for democracy, urging the youth to join the cause. He raised concerns over the pre-election imprisonment of an elected Chief Minister, calling it a matter of national concern.
