Eligibility Criteria for GATE 2025
Candidates are eligible to appear for GATE 2025 if they meet the following criteria:
- Undergraduate Students: Students who are in the third year or higher of their undergraduate degree program.
- Graduates: Candidates who have completed a government-approved degree program in engineering, technology, architecture, science, commerce, arts, or humanities.
GATE 2025 Exam Format and Details
- Duration: 3 hours
- Number of Test Papers: 30 (including full and subject-specific papers)
- Exam Sections: General Aptitude (GA) and the subject chosen by the candidate
- Types of Questions: Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ), Multiple Select Questions (MSQ), and Numerical Answer Type (NAT)
Important Exam Guidelines
- Number of Papers: Candidates can appear for a maximum of two test papers. Each candidate must submit only one application. If selecting a second paper, it must be included in the original application.
- Multiple Applications: If more than one application is submitted, only one will be considered, and the remaining applications will be rejected without refund of the application fee.
- Negative Marking:
- MCQs: For each incorrect answer in MCQs worth one mark, one-third mark will be deducted; for each incorrect answer in MCQs worth two marks, two-thirds mark will be deducted.
- MSQ and NAT: There is no negative marking for incorrect answers, and no partial marks will be awarded for MSQs.
Language and Scoring
- Language: The question papers will be in English.
- Total Marks: Each GATE paper is worth 100 marks.
- General Aptitude (GA): All papers include a general aptitude section worth 15 marks.
- Specific Curriculum: The remaining 85 marks cover subject-specific content.
