Badrinath: Badrinath Dham, one of India's revered pilgrimage sites, is witnessing continuous and heavy snowfall following a sudden shift in the weather pattern in the high-altitude areas of Uttarakhand. Since Wednesday, the iconic Badrinath Temple and its surroundings have been blanketed in a white sheet of snow, offering a picturesque scene for devotees and visitors. Kedarnath Temple, another significant pilgrimage site, is also adorned with snow as the area experiences snowfall for the second consecutive day. Additionally, Surkanda Devi Hills in Uttarakhand's Tehri Garhwal region are covered in fresh snowfall.
The heavy snowfall is part of a broader weather pattern affecting the mountainous regions of Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, and Uttarakhand. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted heavy rain and snowfall in these areas in the coming days due to a western disturbance. Kuldeep Srivastava, Head of Regional Meteorological Centre, Delhi, mentioned that the impact of the western disturbance would extend to plain areas like Haryana, Delhi NCR, and Uttar Pradesh. An orange alert has been issued for thunderstorms and lightning in Punjab and Haryana, with light rain expected in Delhi NCR. Additionally, a yellow alert has been issued for Delhi NCR due to expected fog on February 2.
