Agartala: The High Court has taken suo motu cognizance of the case and sought a report from the government on reports of attacks on minorities and damaging their properties in the state of Tripura, northeast India. Taking cognizance of the matter, Chief Justice of the High Court Inderjit Mahanti and Justice Subhashish Talpatra have asked the Tripura government to file a detailed report in this regard by November 10.
It also asked what is the state's plan to thwart the conspiracy to incite communal frenzy. A bench of Chief Justice Inderjit Mahanti and Justice S Talpatra also appreciated the steps taken by various political parties to restore peace in the state. The court also appreciated the "active and positive role" played by the print media to restore peace and order within the state.
The state government gave a brief note before the court explaining some important steps taken by it to bring communal harmony in the state as well as action against the perpetrators of such violence. On this, the court said that its only concern is the lives, property and freedom of all the citizens of Tripura. The court also mentioned that the state has the responsibility of maintaining law and order as well as protecting the lives, livelihoods and properties of citizens.
