Agartala: Recently the Tripura High Court recently issued an interim order for the chief wildlife warden to submit an investigative report on the deaths of migratory birds at Sukh Sagar Lake in Udaipur, Tripura.

A Tripura High Court division bench, led by chief judge Indrajeet Mahanty and justice SG Chattopadhyay, also wanted to know if any post-mortem or forensic examinations on the bird carcasses had been performed, and if so, what the findings were.

" we direct the Chief Life Warden (respondent No.4 herein) to submit a report to this Court indicating the circumstances under which migratory birds appear to be dying in various parts of Tripura, and in particular, death of migratory birds at Sukh sagar Jala lake, Udaipur, and, if possible, he is to indicate the possible reasons for such death of the migratory birds, and also to inform the Court'' the order copy reads. The Wildlife officials were also ordered by the court to take immediate steps to conduct scientific testing in the future.

"...in the case of any future death, an instant post mortem should be conducted and a scientific examination conducted to determine the exact reasons of death." The report must be filed to this Court within a week from today," the order stated. Hundreds of dead migratory birds were recently discovered at Sukh Sagar lake in Udaipur, Tripura's Gomati district.

Despite the fact that photos and videos of the bird carcasses went viral on social media, the Tripura forest department was unable to locate even a single dead bird in the area. The mysterious disappearance of bird carcasses not only shocked the forest department, but also generated suspicions that poachers may have been involved in the incident.
