In a significant development, the Bombay High Court has instructed Netflix to cease the screening of the series titled "The Indrani Mukerjea Story: Buried Truth." This directive comes as the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) expresses apprehensions regarding its potential impact on ongoing investigations.

The court raised questions regarding why the CBI hadn't been granted access to view the series, emphasizing the importance of sharing such documentary content with investigating authorities.

Scheduled for airing on Friday, the series revolves around the infamous Sheena Bora case. However, a division bench comprising Justices Revati Mohite Dere and Manjusha Deshpande has postponed further proceedings to February 29.

While acknowledging the rights of the accused, the court emphasized the importance of considering the rights of both the prosecution and the victim in legal matters. Senior counsel Ravi Kadam, representing Netflix, initially opposed the halt, arguing it would amount to pre-censorship. However, the bench noted that the trial is still ongoing, suggesting a delay in the series' release would not be detrimental.

The CBI, in its petition to the high court, highlighted concerns about the series potentially influencing public perception and affecting the outcome of the case, which is still in progress. So far, 89 out of 237 witnesses have been examined by the trial court.

Furthermore, Kadam revealed during the court session that the series features interviews with five witnesses, including Mikhail (Sheena's brother) and Vidhie Mukerjea (Indrani's daughter from a previous relationship). Notably, three of these witnesses are yet to provide statements to the trial court.

The docu-series delves into the disappearance and alleged murder of 25-year-old Sheena Bora, Indrani Mukherjea's daughter. Bora was purportedly strangled to death by Indrani, her former driver Shyamvar Rai, and ex-husband Sanjeev Khanna in April 2012, with her body later burnt in a forest in Raigad district.
