CHENNAI: Following intense rainfall in various districts, both government and private schools in Tirunelveli, Tenkasi, Theni, Thoothukudi, and Kanniyakumari have announced a temporary shutdown on Thursday. The decision was made in accordance with directives issued by the respective District Collectors due to the prevailing heavy downpour.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) earlier stated that cyclonic circulations over Tamil Nadu were anticipated to trigger moderate to heavy rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning, in Kerala over the next five days. Moreover, there's a likelihood of heavy rains in isolated areas within Tamil Nadu between November 22-24.

Based on IMD data for various regions of Tamil Nadu, rainfall measurements have been substantial. Dharapur recorded 17cm, while Avinashi and Andipatti reported 14cm each. Parangiprttai witnessed 13cm, and Watrap experienced 12cm of rainfall.

The Chennai Regional Meteorological Center's forecast for Thursday predicts light to moderate rainfall across Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal regions. Thunderstorms and lightning are expected at specific locations. Additionally, isolated heavy rainfall is forecasted in Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Tirupur, Dindigul, Theni, Madurai, Sivaganga, Virudhunagar, Ramanathapuram, Thoothukudi, Tirunelveli, Tenkasi, and Kanyakumari districts of Tamil Nadu, as well as in the Karaikal area.

Looking ahead to Friday, there's a probability of heavy rain at isolated spots in Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Theni, Tenkasi, and Tiruvallur districts of Tamil Nadu. The weather outlook suggests ongoing light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms across Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal, persisting until November 28th.

Simultaneously, regions of Maharashtra, notably the coastal Konkan area, along with Goa, are forecasted to experience light to moderate rainfall between November 23 and November 27. This weather pattern is attributed to the impact of strong moisture-laden easterly winds prevailing in the area.
