Panaji: A total of five lakh corona anti-virus vaccine been given in Goa so far. The state government here says the 'tika utsav' has helped it reach out to the beneficiaries, especially the people of rural areas. In fact, the total population of Goa is 16 lakhs and the cases of Covid-19 have increased in the last one month. According to official data, five lakh doses of vaccine (including second dose) have been given in the state so far. According to detailed data released on May 26, 95,886 people have been "fully vaccinated" while 3,00,923 others have received only the first dose of vaccine.

In addition, it is said that the beneficiaries include people in the age group of 18-44 and above 45 years. In fact, the Government had organized the first phase of tika utsav between 17th March and 23rd March and the second phase has started from 26th May in all Panchayats and Municipal Corporations. Amidst all this, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant now spoke to reporters. Speaking on the occasion, he said, "We are also getting good response to Tika Utsav-2, but we want to involve more and more people under it. The target is to immunize all people above the age of 45 years in the state".

On the other hand, BJP's Goa unit chief Sadanand Tanawade said, "The tika utsav helped in vaccinating a large number of people as camps were set up in most parts of the state and government machinery reached the beneficiaries' homes. The vaccine festival broke the hesitation in the minds of the people about vaccination and helped prevent the spread of corona virus. At the same time, Dr. Shekhar Salkar, in-charge of the Goa BJP Medical Cell, said, "The vaccine festival helped in vaccinating people living in rural areas. Otherwise, for various reasons, these people are not able to reach the Government Immunization Centre".
