Noida: A man living in Hajipur village under Noida Police Station Sector 39 area allegedly set fire to his wife and himself by pouring kerosene on them due to family distress. While the man died during treatment, his wife and mother-in-law, who came to the rescue, are in critical condition.

Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone I) Ranvijay Singh informed about the matter and said that Mohandas (45), originally a resident of West Bengal, lived on rent in Sukhbir's house in Hajipur village. He was having a dispute with his wife Lakshmi (36) and his case was sub-judice in the family court of Gautam Budh Nagar. He said Lakshmi and Mohan got into an argument over something on Wednesday morning. Mohan poured kerosene on his wife and himself and set fire. Meanwhile, Kiran (65), the mother of his wife who came to rescue, also caught fire.

He said the police who reached the spot after receiving information about the incident admitted Lakshmi, Mohandas, and Kiran to Noida district hospital. Lakshmi has been referred to Delhi's Safdarjung Hospital for treatment in view of her deteriorating condition. He said Mohandas succumbed to his injuries during treatment while his wife and mother-in-law remain in critical condition.
