Mumbai: Tragedy struck Maharashtra's Kolhapur this afternoon at the Cyber Chowk intersection, where a speeding Hyundai Santro, driven by a 72-year-old man, caused havoc by ramming into four bikes before colliding with a parked vehicle. The incident unfolded on a busy intersection without traffic lights.
Caught on CCTV, the horrific crash resulted in the death of the Santro driver and two others, while six individuals sustained injuries. At 2:25 pm, amidst the usual traffic flow at the Cyber Chowk, three bikes proceeded straight, while a fourth traversed the intersection from right to left. Within moments, at 2:26 pm, the speeding Santro plowed into the two-wheelers, hurling riders and passengers several feet away.
Miraculously, a man and woman on a bike narrowly avoided the collision as the car zoomed past, ultimately colliding with the motorcyclists ahead before slamming into a stationary vehicle at the road's end. In the aftermath, distressing scenes unfolded, with bystanders rushing to aid the injured. Visuals depicted a man lifting a child from the bike, while the woman, seated behind, required assistance to rise. Several individuals were thrown a considerable distance, and one lay injured on the road.
Following the collision, the Santro careened into a nearby pole before flipping onto its side. Law enforcement authorities have initiated an investigation into the incident, which claimed the lives of the car's driver and two others, leaving six individuals wounded. The identities of the victims have yet to be disclosed.
