Malwa: A leader of a farmers' organization in the Malwa region of Madhya Pradesh has warned to go to court after being disturbed by the wrong weather predictions of the Indian Meteorological Department and seeing the damage to its crops. In fact, the leader of the Kisan Sangathan has claimed crop loss. On the other hand, a senior IMD meteorologist says, "Farmers must have been misled, as a private weather service predicted an early monsoon this year, contrary to IMD forecasts.''

He also said, "Farmers should check whether the information is coming to them from the actual source.'' Let me tell you all that Bharat Singh Bais, spokesperson of Bharatiya Kisan Sangh, Malwa province, claimed last Wednesday that in most cases the weather forecast issued by IMD has failed. This has caused huge losses to the farmers. He also said, "They are planning to move court against wrong predictions of IMD and a final decision in this regard will be taken soon.''

In fact, Ujjain farmer leader Bais says that sometimes farmers prepare themselves for sowing as per IMD weather forecast, but wrong forecasts caused huge losses and damage to sown crops due to recent rains. He also said that farmers cannot rely on IMD forecasts. Bais said weather forecasts in the US and other countries are accurate and people can prepare themselves accordingly. He also claimed, "The government in India is spending a lot of money, but the weather forecasts are going wrong.''

On the other hand, a senior scientist at the IMD Bhopal Centre denied the allegations and said that weather forecasts from more than one source could mislead farmers. He also said that farmers should at least check that all weather information is coming to them from the actual source.
