Dehradun: Preparations are underway to expand the network of Vande Bharat Express trains nationwide, bringing good news for Uttarakhand residents. The Indian Railways has devised plans to introduce a new Vande Bharat train service between Kathgodam and Dehradun. Currently, only two trains operate on this route, creating challenges for local commuters. The existing options include the morning Jan Shatabdi departing from Dehradun and the Kathgodam-Dehradun Express, which operates during the night.
The addition of a new Vande Bharat train running during the day is expected to significantly enhance passenger convenience, providing a third daytime travel option from Kumaon to Dehradun. Earlier reports suggested that the new Vande Bharat train would run to Delhi; however, plans have since been altered, and sources indicate that these trains will operate between Kathgodam and Dehradun. Although there hasn't been an official announcement, this information has surfaced through railway sources.
The State Minister of Defense and Tourism has also written to the Railways regarding the initiation of the Vande Bharat service. It's worth noting that Uttarakhand's first Vande Bharat Express commenced operations on May 29, 2023. As a semi-high-speed train running between Dehradun and Delhi, the Vande Bharat Express was flagged off by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on May 25.
