Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced that the first instalment of the Ladki Bahin Yojana will be disbursed during the Rakshabandhan festival next month. Speaking at the foundation stone laying ceremony for Surjagad Ispat Pvt Ltd in Gadchiroli district, Fadnavis, alongside Deputy CM Ajit Pawar, shared this significant update.
"We are aiming to release the first instalment of the 'Ladki Bahin Yojana' between August 15 and August 19, coinciding with the Rakshabandhan festival," Fadnavis informed the media. This scheme, officially known as the 'Mukhyamantri Majhi Ladki Bahin' initiative, will provide Rs 1,500 per month to married, divorced, and destitute women aged 21-60, with an annual family income cap of Rs 2.5 lakh for eligibility.
Rakshabandhan, celebrated on August 19, will mark the beginning of this financial support. Addressing calls from the opposition to extend the registration deadline beyond July 15, Fadnavis assured that forms submitted by August 31 would receive instalments for both July and August. "We will make sure everyone eligible is included in the scheme," he emphasized.
Fadnavis also highlighted the developmental potential of Gadchiroli district, a region partly impacted by Left Wing Naxalism. He noted that it is poised to contribute 30 percent of Maharashtra's finished steel production, thanks to substantial investments. The new steel plant in Vadlapeth, with an investment of Rs 10,000 crore, is expected to create 7,000 jobs and produce 8 million tonnes of steel annually. Additionally, the Lloyds Steel plant will have a production capacity of 12 million tonnes.
Furthermore, Fadnavis announced an upcoming Rs 35,000 crore investment in Chamorshi, Gadchiroli, projected to generate employment for 20,000 people. "Gadchiroli is rapidly evolving and will soon transform from a lagging district to a leading one in the state," he stated.
The Ladki Bahin Yojana, introduced by Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister Ajit Pawar in the state budget, is being promoted by the Shiv Sena, BJP, and NCP as they gear up for the forthcoming assembly elections. According to the government resolution, beneficiaries of the scheme must not have an annual family income exceeding Rs 2.5 lakh and must possess a bank account, Aadhaar/ration card, and state domicile.
