Bhopal: Power consumers in Madhya Pradesh are going to be hit by electricity once again. This time the proposal to increase the charges by power companies including electricity connections has reportedly been sent to the Madhya Pradesh Electricity Regulatory. It is also being reported that the proposal was sent earlier also, but then the proposal was withdrawn after opposition from the objectors. However, once again the proposal was sent with the same increased rates. Let me tell you all that power companies have re-proposed new connections by all categories of consumers and a 68 percent to 70 percent increase in various types of service charges, to which objections have been invited from consumers by September 30, 2021. On the other hand, the Madhya Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission will hear on October 5.
Let us also tell all of you that earlier also a proposal was sent with the same rates, which was opposed by about 20 consumers and representatives of industry organizations at a public hearing held on July 6, 2021. In view of the protests, the proposal for a fee hike was postponed, but now the proposal has been sent again with the same increased rates. The proposal is now said to be heard on October 5. In fact, power department expert and petitioner Rajendra Agarwal says that 'under the present circumstances, the commerce and industrial sector is going through a recession. In such situations, if the power companies increase the charges of various services, it will definitely affect the common consumer.
So this increase should be withdrawn immediately. Now a discussion about the proposed rates of electricity connections, according to which the single face 3 kW connection used to cost Rs 600 earlier which is now proposed at Rs 1020. The three faces used to cost Rs 1800 for 5 kW which is now proposed to be Rs 3000. This is considered to be a 67 percent increase. Earlier the three-phase used to take 4800 for a 10 kW connection but now rs 8000 is proposed.
