All three energy corporations of the state have sent petitions to the Regulatory Commission for the next financial year. With these proposals, electricity rates for consumers can be increased by up to 30 percent. However, the Regulatory Commission has to take the final decision on this. After studying the petitions of the three, the Commission is going to send a letter to the Corporation to remove their shortcomings. After this, the petitions will be made public, then the Commission is going to hold a public hearing and also seek suggestions. On this basis, the Commission will take a decision on new rates, which may come into effect from April 1.

UPCL: Uttarakhand Power Corporation Limited has shown an amount of approximately Rs 440 crore as subsidy in its petition. That means, if the government is going to give this money to the corporation as subsidy, then the electricity rates will increase by approximately 23 percent and if it does not give it, then it will increase by 27 percent. UPCL has also said that they may spend approximately Rs 8700 crore on power purchase in this financial year, which is estimated to cross Rs 8900 crore in the next financial year. In this regard, UPCL has proposed a 23-27 percent increase, which may impact the pockets of consumers.

UJVNL: Reports say that Uttarakhand Jal Vidyut Nigam Limited has proposed an increase of about 23 percent in its tariff i.e. the rate at which it provides electricity to UPCL as compared to last year. According to this proposal, UPCL tariff may increase by 1.5 percent. That is, by adding this, UPCL tariff can reach Rs 24.5 to Rs 28.5 per unit.

Pitkul: Let us tell you that Power Transmission Corporation of Uttarakhand Limited has proposed an increase of about 48 percent this year in comparison to last year in view of transmission charges and other maintenance. If the Commission accepts this proposal, then UPCL's tariff will increase by approximately 1.5 percent. That means the overall offer of the three corporations can reach Rs 26 to Rs 30 per unit. This time the Regulatory Commission will have to take a decision on this proposal only.
