A case has been registered against famous producer Ekta Kapoor and her mother Shobha Kapoor under the POCSO Act. This case has been registered for showing obscene scenes of minor girls in an episode of the web series 'Gandi Baat' of the OTT platform 'Alt Balaji'. According to the complaint, some episodes of this series show inappropriate behavior with minor girls, which is a violation of serious legal sections.
Reasons for complaint
The complaint states that the series was streamed on Alt Balaji between February 2021 and April 2021. However, the controversial episode is currently not available on this app. The complainant alleges that great men and saints were insulted by using cigarette advertisements in this web series, which has hurt their sentiments.
Apart from this, the complaint states that some scenes in this series violate the rules of POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences). Due to this, it also appears that laws like Information Technology Act 2000, Protection of Women Act 1986, and Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act 2003 have also been violated.
Where was the complaint lodged?
This complaint has been lodged at MHB Police Station in Borivali, Mumbai. A local citizen had filed a complaint against former Alt Balaji producer Ekta Kapoor and her mother Shobha Kapoor. This matter became more serious when recently the court had commented against pornographic films being made on children.
Supreme Court decision
Let us tell you that on 27 September 2024, the Supreme Court gave an important verdict on pornographic content related to children. The court said that watching, publishing and downloading such pornographic content against children is a crime. With this decision, he rejected the decision of the Madras High Court, which said that such activities cannot be included in the crime.
The problem of pornographic content
This case also points out how the content shown on media and OTT platforms can affect the sensitivity towards children in society. Especially, when it comes to minors, the impact of such content can be serious.
The case filed against Ekta Kapoor and Shobha Kapoor is a step in this direction, which draws attention to the fact that we should take children's rights and their safety seriously. It is also necessary that production houses and producers take care of all legal and ethical responsibilities before presenting any content. Such cases also make us understand that society should understand its responsibility and be sensitive towards children. We should all together create an environment where children feel safe and there is no threat to their innocence.
