New Delhi: Former Supreme Court Judge N Santosh Hegde expressed his deep disappointment with Aam Aadmi Party leader and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, following Kejriwal's arrest in connection with a money-laundering case related to an excise policy.

Justice (retd) Hegde, who played a pivotal role in the 'India Against Corruption' movement alongside Kejriwal and Anna Hazare over a decade ago, lamented the apparent transformation he witnessed in Kejriwal since assuming power. "It clearly shows that when in power, greed overtakes you," he remarked regarding Kejriwal's situation.

Expressing his disillusionment, Justice (retd) Hegde remarked, "I am totally disappointed. I thought AAP (after it came to power) will uphold administrative fairness which is not there. And it is an indication of the fact that power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely."

Following the movement's transition into a political party (AAP), Justice (retd) Hegde distanced himself from it, citing his belief that the political landscape was inherently corrupt. He explained, "Politics today is a den of corruption. No political party is free from it. The India Against Corruption movement was fighting against corruption in administration."

Reflecting on the oft-repeated accusations against the BJP-led NDA government regarding the alleged misuse of Central agencies like the ED and CBI, Justice (retd) Hegde acknowledged the selective nature of such actions but dismissed claims of unfairness. "Allegation of parties in opposition that the ruling party is doing it only for destroying opposition, I don't believe it," he remarked, citing the absence of absolute equality in criminal jurisprudence.

Looking ahead to the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, Justice (retd) Hegde emphasized the importance of voting based on the candidate's quality rather than affiliations. He encouraged voters to utilize the None of the Above (NOTA) option if suitable candidates were not available, stressing its significance in signaling dissatisfaction to political parties.
