Bhopal: Senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh has confidently asserted that the INDIA alliance will secure 295 seats and form the next government as the country awaits the counting of votes for the Lok Sabha polls. Singh, without directly naming the BJP, expressed skepticism regarding outcomes exceeding 300 seats, suggesting they may be attributed to electronic voting machines (EVMs) rather than genuine public mandate.
"If people have voted, then they will not get a majority and the figure given by Congress of 295 seats (for INDIA alliance) is correct. If it is '300 paar', it is not the vote of people but of EVM," he remarked. Digvijaya Singh, a former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister contesting Lok Sabha polls from Rajgarh, emphasized Congress and other INDIA alliance constituents' insistence on securing 295 of 543 seats to form the next central government. However, exit polls have indicated a return to power for the BJP-led NDA with a significant majority.
Earlier in the day, Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Rajiv Kumar highlighted India's record-breaking voter turnout in the Lok Sabha election, praising the nation's achievement of 642 million voters. He underscored the historic significance of this turnout, surpassing the combined voters of all G7 countries and more than doubling the voters of 27 European Union countries. "We thank each and every one who took part in this festival of democracy. The Indian elections are indeed a miracle, having no parallel in the world," Rajiv Kumar remarked.
