Mumbai: An unauthorized Islamic shrine, known as a Mazar, located on the Manmad Chandwad Highway in Nashik, Maharashtra, was demolished overnight on March 1st and 2nd. The action was taken following concerns raised by Bharatiya Janata Party MLA and spokesperson Nitesh Rane, who had highlighted the issue in the legislative assembly. Rane had shared images of the illegal structure on social media and emphasized that the government would not entertain unreasonable demands, asserting the state's commitment to Hindutva principles.

During a press conference on February 29th, Rane accused a cleric from Malegaon of establishing the shrine and alleged that an official from the Highways Authority had accepted a bribe of Rs 20,000 to facilitate its construction. He also brought the matter to the attention of Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, stressing that such unauthorized structures cannot be tolerated along national highways in India.

Rane underscored that while Hindu temples along national highways have been relocated peacefully, the construction of unauthorized shrines reflects appeasement politics and poses safety concerns, especially with the potential influx of worshippers onto the highway. He warned of further action, including the construction of a Hindu temple, if the illegal structure was not removed promptly. Following Rane's complaints, the state administration took action to dismantle the unauthorized construction, ensuring compliance with the law.
