New Delhi: Delhi Water Minister Atishi has raised concerns over the diminishing water flow from Haryana through the Munak Canal, which serves as a crucial source of potable water for the national capital. Atishi announced her request for an emergency meeting with Lt Governor V K Saxena to address this pressing issue.
In her statement posted on X, Atishi revealed that Delhi is entitled to receive 1,050 cusecs of water from the Munak Canal, yet the current supply has plummeted to a mere 840 cusecs. This reduction in water allocation poses a significant challenge as seven Water Treatment Plants heavily rely on this supply to meet the city's water needs. Atishi warned that if the situation persists, Delhi could face exacerbated water scarcity within the next 1-2 days.
With temperatures rising and water shortages becoming more acute, Atishi emphasized the urgency of the situation. She called upon Lt Governor V K Saxena, as the representative of the Central Government, to intervene promptly and resolve the issue to prevent further deterioration of the water situation in Delhi. The appeal underscores the critical importance of adequate water supply for the well-being of the city's residents and the efficient functioning of essential services.
