New Delhi: Another co-convict of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Prakash Jarwal in the Dr. Rajender Singh suicide case has moved to the Delhi High Court, with the hearing scheduled for October 18. The case involves Jarwal, Kapil Nagar, and Harish Jarwal, all of whom were convicted on February 28.
During the recent trial court hearing, the counsel for convict Kapil Nagar requested an adjournment, citing his move to the High Court. Consequently, Special Judge Kaveri Baweja postponed the matter to October 21. Justice Amit Mahajan had previously summoned the physical trial court records on September 27.
Earlier, on August 30, Justice Mahajan quashed the conviction of Harish Jarwal, noting a settlement had been reached with the complainant on August 10. Harish Jarwal had challenged the Rouse Avenue Court's judgment, having been convicted under Section 506 (Criminal Intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), which is compoundable upon the request of the intimidated party.
Senior counsel Ravi Sood, representing the petitioner, argued that his client faced charges solely under Section 506, Part-I of the IPC. After considering the submissions, the High Court allowed the petition, setting aside the conviction judgment from February 28, contingent on the petitioner paying a total cost of Rs 30,000 to the Delhi Police Welfare Society within eight weeks.
The FIR in this case was registered at the Neb Sarai Police Station in 2020.
