New Delhi: Delhi Customs on Sunday confiscated 1,660 grams of cocaine valued at over Rs 24 crore from a male passenger at Indira Gandhi International Airport. The passenger, a national from the Federal Republic of Liberia who arrived from Dubai, has been arrested under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.
In a post on X, Delhi Customs stated, "On the basis of profiling, Customs@IGI Airport have seized 1660 grams of cocaine valued at Rs.24.90 crore from a male passenger of Federal Republic of Liberia nationality who arrived from Dubai to Delhi. The passenger has been arrested under NDPS Act, 1985." Further investigation is ongoing.
Earlier this year, in May, Delhi Customs intercepted another significant contraband haul at the same airport. The agency seized over 2,000 grams of osmium powder and two luxury watches valued at Rs 72.3 lakh from two Indian nationals arriving from Hong Kong. Delhi Customs posted on X, "On the basis of profiling, Customs@IGI Airport have seized 2953 grams of osmium powder and two luxury watches valued at Rs 72.3 lakhs from two Indian nationals who arrived from Hong Kong." The suspects were apprehended under the Customs Act, 1962.
Additionally, on May 3, the Delhi Customs' Patparganj Commissionerate seized 30,090 e-cigarettes worth Rs 2.40 crore. The e-cigarettes were concealed among hair accessories. The import of e-cigarettes is prohibited under the Prohibition of Electronic Cigarettes (Production, Manufacture, Import, Export, Transport, Sale, Distribution, Storage, and Advertisement) Act, 2019.
