New Delhi: Today, Delhi High Court delivered a significant verdict amidst Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's ongoing judicial custody. Kejriwal, who had challenged his remand by the Enforcement Directorate (ED), saw his petition dismissed by the court, failing to secure any relief. The court's decision came following the completion of the hearing on Kejriwal's petition.

The court emphasized that Kejriwal's petition didn't seek bail but rather contested his arrest, which he deemed wrongful. Highlighting that the ED had acknowledged the offense, the court pointed out the longstanding legal principles governing approvers, affirming that the Chief Minister held no special privileges in this regard. Notably, the court clarified that the case wasn't a dispute between the Center and Kejriwal but solely between Kejriwal and the ED, leading to the dismissal of his petition.

Delhi High Court ruled that Arvind Kejriwal's arrest in connection with a money laundering case related to a liquor scam was lawful. Justice Swarn Kanta Sharma presided over the verdict, underscoring that Kejriwal's petition didn't seek bail but contested the legality of his arrest and subsequent remand by the ED.

Arvind Kejriwal, arrested in connection with the liquor scam, had challenged his arrest and subsequent remand as unconstitutional in his petition. During the High Court proceedings, Kejriwal's counsel, Abhishek Manu Singhvi, argued against the necessity of the CM's immediate arrest, questioning its timing and alleging violations of constitutional principles, including democracy, free and fair elections, and a level playing field.

In response, the ED, labeling Kejriwal as the main conspirator in the liquor scam, opposed the petition, contending that Kejriwal couldn't claim immunity from arrest based on the upcoming elections. The ED asserted that the law applied equally to all, including public officials like Kejriwal, emphasizing the principle of equality before the law.
