Dehradun: An elderly couple was charred to death after a fire broke out in a house in Markhola village of Pabau block of Pauri in Uttarakhand late on Monday night. The elderly couple lived alone at home. The fire is suspected to have happened due to a cooking or baking fire. Pabau outpost in-charge Deepak Panwar said that the pradhan of gram sabha Thapli informed that a fire had broken out in the house of an elderly couple in Markhola Tok. On information, a police team from the Fire Department Pabau outpost rushed to the spot.
Markhola village is about 30 to 35 km from the outpost. Deepak Panwar said it was too late by the time the rescue team reached Thapli village. Bandur Lal (90), son of Gambhir Lal and his wife Godavari Devi (82) were found in a badly burnt condition. Both were taken to the district hospital in an ambulance. The doctors there declared both of them dead.
The outpost in-charge said that the fire had erupted due to the house being made of wood and stone. According to doctors, the elderly couple suffered around 90 per cent of burns. Which led to their death. The elderly couple lived alone at home. Their children had died earlier.
