Jaipur: The Congress party has unveiled its sixth list of candidates for the upcoming Rajasthan assembly elections. This list includes 22 nominees who will be contesting in various constituencies across the state. One notable decision in this announcement is the denial of a ticket to Minister Mahesh Joshi, who previously represented the Hawa Mahal constituency in Jaipur. Instead of Joshi, the party has nominated R R Tiwari, who serves as the president of its Jaipur unit.
With this latest list, the Congress has now declared its candidates for 178 out of the 200 available seats in the Rajasthan assembly election. The party has also reserved one seat, Bharatpur, for the Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD).
It's important to highlight that Mahesh Joshi, along with Parliamentary Affairs Minister Shanti Dhariwal and Rajasthan Tourism Development Corporation (RTDC) chairman Dharmendra Rathore, received notices from the party for their alleged indiscipline. This action was taken after Congress MLAs of the Ashok Gehlot camp chose to skip a Congress Legislature Party meeting that was called at the chief minister's residence in Jaipur back in September of the previous year. Instead, they held a parallel meeting at Dhariwal's residence to oppose any potential move by the party to appoint Sachin Pilot as the chief minister. It's worth noting that during this period, Ashok Gehlot himself was in the race for the Congress president post.
The latest list of 22 candidates includes names like Abhimanyu Poonia, who will be contesting from Sangaria, Shahjad Khan, who will be representing Soorsagar, Om Narayaniwal, who is the nominee from Bhilwara, and Naimuddin Guddu, who will contest from Ladpura.
The upcoming Rajasthan Assembly election is scheduled for November 25, with the vote count set to take place on December 3. This election is crucial for the Congress party, which aims to challenge the prevailing trend of incumbent governments being voted out in the state.
