Dehradun: Following a resounding victory in the recent by-elections across seven states, Uttar Pradesh Congress youth leader Nitant Singh Nitin celebrated by displaying a poster at the UP Congress state headquarters on Sunday. The poster highlighted the INDIA Alliance's success in winning 11 out of 13 legislative assembly seats, focusing particularly on the triumph of Congress candidate Lakhapat Singh Butola in Uttarakhand's Badrinath seat.

The poster, which was unveiled on July 11, declared, “Constitution has won once again. After Ram Ji's Ayodhya, we received Lord Vishnu’s blessings in Badrinath. May Dharma win and the unrighteous be destroyed.” This message has stirred controversy due to its religiou s undertones and its perceived triumphalism.The by-poll results were a significant blow to the BJP, which secured only two of the 13 seats contested. The INDIA bloc emerged victorious in 10 seats, while an independent candidate won a seat in Bihar.

Polling for these by-elections occurred on July 10 across seven states: Bihar, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, and Himachal Pradesh. In Uttarakhand, Congress candidates won both contested seats. Lakhapat Singh Butola defeated BJP's Rajendra Singh Bhandari by a margin of 5,224 votes in Badrinath, and Qazi Mohammad Nizamuddin won against BJP’s Kartar Singh Bhadana in Manglaur with a margin of 422 votes. In Himachal Pradesh, Congress claimed two out of three seats with victories by Kamlesh Thakur in Dehra and Hardeep Singh Bawa in Nalagarh. BJP's Ashish Sharma won the seat in Hamirpur.

Punjab saw the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), a partner in the INDIA alliance, win in Jalandhar West. In Tamil Nadu, the DMK, also part of the INDIA alliance, secured a win in Vikravandi. In West Bengal, all four seats went to the All India Trinamool Congress, a key INDIA alliance partner, defeating the BJP in each contest. In Bihar, neither the JD(U) of the BJP-led NDA nor the RJD of the INDIA alliance was successful in securing a win.
