A cloudburst in Kedarnath, Uttarakhand, on July 31 caused significant damage to approximately 30 meters of the walkway. Authorities have raised concerns that around 150-200 pilgrims may be stranded in the area.
A high alert has been issued for the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), police, and local officials to respond to the situation.
The cloudburst resulted in a landslide along the Bhim Bali stream near the Kedarnath walkway. Fortunately, no deaths or injuries have been reported.
This incident follows a recent landslide in Uttarakhand's Tehri district caused by heavy rainfall, which destroyed several houses and shops. A 42-year-old woman, Sarita Devi, and her 15-year-old daughter, Ankita, were tragically buried under the debris. Rescuers later recovered their bodies from Toli village. District Magistrate Mayur Dikshit explained that a retaining wall behind their house collapsed, leading to the tragedy.
Additionally, on July 27, the swollen Sone river damaged the Sonprayag-Kedarnath road, disrupting traffic on the route. Water levels in the Alaknanda and Mandakini rivers also rose significantly.
