New Delhi: At around 06:20 pm on February 4, CISF surveillance and intelligence personnel at Terminal-3 of Delhi's IGI Airport noticed suspicious movements of a passenger in the check-in area. Bhalerao Prashant Bhimrao was scheduled to take a flight from Delhi to Bangkok on IndiGo Airlines flight number 6E-85. On suspicion, they were taken to a random checking point for a thorough scrutiny of their baggage. On checking his baggage through an X-BIS machine, some suspicious images of foreign exchange concealment were found.
Subsequently, the passenger was allowed to complete the check-in formalities and was kept under strict surveillance through physical and electronic measures. After completing the check-in process and immigration formalities, the passenger was stopped by cisf's supervision and intelligence staff and brought to the departure customs office. On a thorough examination of his bag in the presence of customs officials, it was found that 51,800 euros and 5,000 US dollars, worth around Rs 50 lakh, were hidden in the clothes kept inside the luggage.
On inquiry, the person could not produce any valid documents to carry such a large amount of foreign currency. The passenger was handed over to customs officials with around Rs 50 lakh worth 51,800 euros and USD 5,000 for further action in the matter.
