TRIPURA: In a significant move towards ending violence and ensuring lasting peace in Tripura, the central and Tripura governments will sign a peace agreement with two insurgent groups today. The ceremony, taking place in New Delhi, will be attended by Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha, along with senior officials from the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) and the Tripura government, will also be present to witness the signing of the Memorandum of Settlement.

The agreement involves the government of India, the Tripura government, and representatives from the National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) and the All Tripura Tiger Force (ATTF). This initiative aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of a developed Northeast, free from extremism, violence, and conflict.

Under Prime Minister Modi's leadership, the government has successfully negotiated 12 major peace agreements in the Northeast, with three specifically targeting Tripura. As a result of these agreements, approximately 10,000 individuals have surrendered their arms and reintegrated into society, reflecting the government’s commitment to fostering peace and prosperity in the region.

The Memorandum of Settlement being signed between the Government of India, Tripura’s state government, and the insurgent groups NLFT and ATTF marks a significant milestone in the ongoing effort to restore peace in the Northeast. This agreement is not just a formalization of commitments but a crucial step in tackling insurgency in the region. It exemplifies the government's strategy of resolving conflicts through dialogue and negotiation with armed groups, aiming to address underlying issues and foster lasting peace. By engaging with these groups directly, the agreement reflects a broader strategy of peacebuilding that seeks to integrate insurgents into mainstream society while promoting stability and development in the region.
