Bangalore: The Central government has granted 'Z' category Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) security cover to Karnataka Governor Thawar Chand Gehlot, following a recent security threat assessment. The Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) issued a written order in this regard, which was communicated to the CRPF last week based on a security threat analysis report prepared by the Intelligence Bureau, according to sources.

CRPF personnel have already taken over the security responsibilities for the Karnataka Governor. Additional procedures related to his security are expected to be finalized by the end of this week, as per sources familiar with the matter, who spoke to ANI on the condition of anonymity.

Z Category Security Cover Limited to Karnataka
Sources confirmed that the 'Z' category security cover will be provided to Gehlot exclusively within the state of Karnataka.

Background on Thawar Chand Gehlot
The 76-year-old leader assumed office as the Governor of Karnataka in July 2021, becoming the 13th individual to hold this position in the state. Notably, he is the first person from Madhya Pradesh to serve as Karnataka’s Governor.

Before his tenure as Governor, Gehlot held several prominent positions in the Central Government. He served as the Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment from 2014 to 2021. Additionally, he was the Leader of the House in the Rajya Sabha and a member of both the Parliamentary Board and the Central Election Committee of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

The new security measures highlight the Central government’s efforts to ensure the safety of high-profile officials, especially following threat assessments from intelligence agencies.
