Dehradun: The matter of removing unauthorized colonies near the railway station in Haldwani, Uttarakhand, has reached the Supreme Court. In this case, Prashant Bhushan has filed another petition in the Supreme Court. Now the Supreme Court has agreed to hear the matter.

The residents, led by Congress MLA Sumit Hridayesh, had filed a petition in the Supreme Court against the order of the Uttarakhand High Court. Along with this, a petition has also been filed on behalf of Prashant Bhushan. The Supreme Court has asked all the petitions to be heard on Thursday. According to Nainital district officials, a total of 4,365 encroachments will be removed from the area. Many families who have been living in these houses for decades are strongly opposing this order. Officials said that they have started the process of demolishing the houses and other structures built on the 2.2 km long railway track.

In Haldwani, thousands of people are taking to the streets to protest against the removal of unauthorized colonies. More than 4,000 families are protesting against the removal of illegal occupation of this railway land. Most of them are Muslims. After the Uttarakhand High Court's order to remove encroachments, preparations are being made to send eviction notices to more than 4,300 families living in these unauthorized colonies. According to sources, there are about 20 mosques, nine temples, and schools at the site from where the encroachments are to be removed. Some of those who will be affected by the high court order says that they were born in this area and are about 80 years old while living here. Some families have been living here since 1937. At the same time, a delegation from the Samajwadi Party will go to Haldwani to meet the families of the victims. A 10-member delegation led by Samajwadi Party MP ST Hasan will meet the families of the victims. Kumaon IG Nilesh Anand Bharne said that 14 companies of CPMF Central Paramilitary Force and 5 companies of Rapid Action Force have been demanded to remove the encroachments. Apart from this, about 1000 police constables and home guards have also been demanded from the Garhwal division. The force will reach Haldwani by January 8. Apart from this, JCB, drone cameras, video cameras, barricades, and other things have been sought from the district administration. Assistance has also been sought from the Local Intelligence Unit in view of the possibility of nuisance or rioting.
