VISAKHAPATNAM: five people were killed and seven others injured in a road accident early Monday in Andhra Pradesh's Alluri Sitarama Raju district, police said.
A private bus overturned near Edugurallapalli in the district's Chinturu Mandal. Sangita Travels' bus, with 60 passengers, was travelling from Chinnapally, Odisha, to Vijayawada. When the driver appeared to lose control of the vehicle while negotiating a turn, the collision occurred.
Passers-by alerted police, who hurried to the area and began a rescue and relief operation. Three people died on the spot, while two others died later at a government hospital in Bhadrachalam, Telangana.
Dhaneswar Dalapati (24), Jeetu Harijan (5), and Nunena Harijan (2) were three of the deceased. The victims were all from Odisha and were working as labourers in Vijayawada.
The bus driver was allegedly under the influence of alcohol and driving erratically, according to the survivors. Police said they had filed a report and were continuing their investigation.
