UTTARKASHI-UTTARAKHAND: Three earthquake tremors were felt in Uttarkashi, Uttarakhand, over the course of a 12-hour period between Sunday and Monday, said Disaster Management Secretary Ranjit Sinha.
In the Siror forest of the Bhatwari block, the first tremor was reported around 12.45 AM. On the Ritcher Scale, the earthquake had a magnitude of 2.5. In the vicinity of 10.10 am, the third tremor was detected. On the Ritcher scale, the intensity was recorded as being at 1.8.
The epicenter of the earthquake has been described as the northern region of Uttarkashi. The location of Uttarkashi falls in India's seismic zone 'V Zone' (maximum risk). With this, 12 earthquake tremors have been felt in Uttarakhand in the last two months.
Take care before, during and after an earthquake:
Prepare for a probable earthquake by creating a family plan that includes how to contact each other and where to meet.
Locate the safest places in your hosue/workplace/school to take shelter in an earthquake, and identify evacuation routes.
Talk to your children about what to do if there is an earthquake, and especially, what to do if they are alone when one occurs.
Make sure you have sufficient emergency supplies, including clean water, non-perishable foods, prescription drugs, first aid kit, batteries, radio, and food for pets. Keep important documents such as passports or identity documents with you.
Keep emergency telephone numbers close at hand (civil defense, ambulance, hospitals, fire department, police, etc.).
If there is a pregnant woman in the family, prepare a pregnancy kit with medical documents, medicines, and other things that might be necessary if she is hospitalized for delivery or any complication.
Prepare an emergency backpack/kit in case you have to evacuate the area.
