Faridabad: A 30-year-old BJP worker, Rajnish, was shot outside a polling booth on October 5, during voting in Haryana's Faridabad Assembly constituency, leaving him hospitalised with a waist injury, police reported.

The incident took place outside the Nidhi Public School, where Rajnish, who has been associated with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) for 14 years, was sitting at a table as people waited to vote. Two bike-borne assailants, with their faces covered by a 'gamchha' and riding a motorbike without a number plate, approached Rajnish. After a brief verbal exchange, one of the men shot him, according to the police. Assistant Commissioner of Police Vivek Kundu visited the hospital where Rajnish is being treated and confirmed that his condition is stable. The police have initiated an investigation into the matter to identify and apprehend the suspects.

Rajnish, a resident of Bharat Colony on 33 Feet Road in Faridabad, is receiving treatment at a private hospital. Former cabinet minister and BJP candidate from Faridabad, Vipul Goyal, visited the hospital to inquire about Rajnish's health, emphasizing that action must be taken against the attackers. Goyal stressed that the law offers equal protection to all citizens, regardless of party affiliation.

An eyewitness, Komal Pandit, confirmed that people were standing outside the polling booth when the two men arrived on a motorbike. While he couldn’t identify who fired the shot, he mentioned that Rajnish had been involved in a "minor incident" earlier in the day. Police continue to investigate the incident to apprehend the culprits and determine the motive behind the attack.
