New Delhi: On Friday, the ruling BJP launched a strong critique of the Congress in the Rajya Sabha, claiming that the Constitution has consistently come under threat whenever the Congress has been in power. Senior BJP leader Sudhanshu Trivedi cited various instances, including changes made to the Preamble, to support his argument.
Initiating the discussion on the Motion of Thanks to the President's Address, Trivedi asserted that while the Congress now speaks about protecting the Constitution, it has historically "disrespected" it in both letter and spirit. Addressing the Congress's assertion that Prime Minister Narendra Modi cannot be compared to Jawaharlal Nehru, Trivedi stated his agreement, noting that Modi was chosen unanimously as the PM candidate, whereas Nehru was "not an unanimous choice."
Trivedi also commented on the optimism of Opposition parties regarding the BJP's losses in Ayodhya and other Lok Sabha constituencies associated with Lord Ram. He argued that the Opposition parties are failing to acknowledge the existence of Lord Ram. Trivedi's speech was repeatedly interrupted by opposition members' sloganeering, leading to two adjournments in the House.
