Starting from today, February 14, 2024, foreign tourists visiting Bali will be subject to a new tourism tax implemented by the Provincial Government. This tax, which was officially approved in November 2023, requires each foreign visitor to pay Rp150,000 (approximately Rs. 800). The payment process will be facilitated through a cashless app called Love Bali, introduced by the Bali Regional Government.

The levy is a one-time payment for the entire duration of the tourist's stay in Bali and will be collected through Bank Rakyat Indonesia (BRI). The initiative aims to address Bali's waste management issues, preserve Balinese culture, and uphold local customs. Additionally, it serves as a response to the challenges posed by over-tourism on the island.

Foreign tourists are generally supportive of this policy, recognizing the importance of preserving Bali's cultural heritage and natural environment. By contributing to this tax, visitors play a role in supporting sustainable tourism practices and ensuring the long-term viability of Bali's tourism industry.
