Dehradun: In recent times, incidents of obstruction of railway tracks have been reported from many parts of the country, in which attempts were made to derail trains. The latest case is of Dhandhera railway station near Roorkee in Uttarakhand, where a gas cylinder was found kept on a railway track. It is suspected that it was placed as part of a conspiracy to derail the train. At 6:35 am on Sunday, the loco pilot of a freight train informed the Roorkee station master that a cylinder was lying on the track between Landhaura and Dhandhera. This place is about a kilometer from Dhandhera station.
Northern Railway CPRO Himanshu Upadhyay said that when the railway staff reached the spot, they found that the cylinder was empty. It was handed over to the station master, and the police and GRP were informed about it. The local police have lodged an FIR at Civil Lines, Roorkee police station. Recently, a similar case was also reported in Rampur, Uttar Pradesh, where an attempt was made to derail the Doon Express between Bilaspur and Rudrapur City. The loco pilot of the train found a 6 meter long iron pole on the track, which was removed and the train was taken out safely.
A similar incident happened in Kanpur, where an LPG cylinder was placed on the railway track. Kalindi Express managed to avoid this accident. Apart from this, a cemented block was placed on the railway track in Ajmer, while a large piece of wood was found on the track in Ghazipur, UP. Due to this piece getting stuck in the engine, the Swatantrata Sangram Senani Express remained stalled for about 2 hours due to technical fault.
