New Delhi: Delhi Congress president Arvinder Singh Lovely has resigned from his post, party officials announced on Sunday. In his resignation letter, Lovely cited the party's decision to ally with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Delhi as the reason for his resignation. He expressed his disagreement with the alliance, stating, "The Delhi Congress Unit was against an alliance with a party which was formed on the sole basis of leveling false, fabricated, and malafide corruption charges against the Congress Party."

Lovely, who was appointed to the post in August 2023, highlighted several issues in his letter to Congress National President Mallikarjun Kharge. He mentioned that the unanimous decisions taken by senior Delhi Congress leaders were unilaterally vetoed by the AICC General Secretary (Delhi In-charge). He further stated, "Since my appointment as DPCC President, the AICC General Secretary (Delhi In-charge) has not allowed me to make any senior appointments in the DPCC. My request for the appointment of a veteran leader as Media head of DPCC was blatantly rejected. To date, the AICC General Secretary (Delhi In-charge) has not allowed the DPCC to appoint all Block presidents in the city. Resultantly more than 150 blocks in Delhi do not presently have a Block President."

Lovely also criticized the decision to ally with the AAP despite corruption allegations made against them. He mentioned, "Despite that, the Party decided to ally with the AAP in Delhi." He added that he had publicly supported the decision and ensured that the entire state unit followed the high command's orders. He also pointed out that as a result of the alliance, the Delhi Congress was allotted three parliamentary seats to contest in the current general elections. Lovely expressed his disapproval of comments made by the North-East Delhi candidate, Kanhaiya Kumar, praising the Delhi Chief Minister and endorsing the works done by AAP in various sectors. In conclusion, Lovely stated, "Since I cannot protect the interests of the Party Workers, I see no reason to continue in the said post."
