AMARAVATI: Government teachers in Andhra Pradesh have continued their strike over pay hikes and other demands, rejecting the state government's settlement with the PRC Sadhana Samithi.

Several teachers' unions resigned from the PRC Sadhana Samithi steering committee on Tuesday in protest over the Saturday agreement. Teachers' union leaders made it plain that they will not accept the government's concessions because the major demand for a wage raise was not met.

State Teachers' Union president Joseph Sudheer Babu, United Teachers' Federation general secretary K. S. S. Prasad, and Andhra Pradesh Teachers' Federation president Hrudaya Raju have all resigned from the steering committee, claiming that it acted independently during the government talks.

They said that they will continue to demonstrate because the administration has refused to meet their demands. Teachers will take part in the present five-day strike, according to the unions.

Teachers' unions have promised to escalate their protests. They stated that a round table meeting will be convened soon to plan their next steps. Employees had abandoned their walkout preparations for February 7 after reaching a deal with the administration.
