VIJAYAWADA: By March 15, Andhra Pradesh will have completed the establishment of new districts, and their administration will begin on April 2, the Telugu New Year. The state's number of districts would increase from 13 to 26.
Chief Minister Jaganmohan Reddy has asked the people to submit concerns and suggestions to the new districts through authorities by March 3. In the third week of March, the final notification for new districts will be sent out.
In all of the new districts, the government will create integrated Collectorates (government complexes) with all government departments in one location. The government had formed four sub-committees to create new districts with defined boundaries and asset and staff divisions.
In addition, the government has formed a state-level committee comprised of the finance secretary, the CCLA secretary, and district collectors to make decisions on the ideas and complaints following a comprehensive investigation.
The titles of the new districts, and the location of their offices, have sparked a lot of debate. Many people objected to NTR's Vijayawada name, suggesting Palnadu, Bapatla, Rajampet, Balaji, Satya Saibaba, Annamayya, Manyam, Alluri Sitaramaraju, Konaseema, and other names.
Several villages and towns have expressed apprehension about merging with newly constituted districts, citing the issue of long-distance travel as a reason. Politicians, and also various organisations and associations, have made a number of proposals and reservations about the new districts.
