In light of recent demands for increased safety for medical professionals following a tragic incident at Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, a disturbing new assault case has emerged from Andhra Pradesh. A viral video has brought attention to the brutal attack on a female doctor while she was performing her duties.
The 27-second CCTV footage, captured at Sri Venkateswara Institute of Medical Sciences (SVIMS) in Tirupati, shows a junior female doctor being viciously assaulted by a patient. According to reports, the doctor, an intern in the Emergency Medicine Department, detailed the assault in a letter to Dr. RV Kumar, the director and vice-chancellor. She described the incident, stating, "I was unexpectedly attacked by a patient named Bangaru Raju, who approached me from behind, pulled my hair, and began forcefully banging my head against the steel rod of a cot." She also expressed concern that the situation could have been much worse if the patient had been armed.
This incident has ignited a fresh wave of calls for stronger protective measures for healthcare workers.
