Mumbai: Union Home Minister Amit Shah's two-day visit to Maharashtra is anticipated to focus on discussions regarding a seat-sharing formula for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, as well as the finalization of candidates. Beginning today, Shah's itinerary includes engagements across various regions of the state.

On the first day, Amit Shah will visit Sambhajinagar in the Marathwada region, an area central to the Maratha reservation issue. Here, he will conduct a roadshow and address a public meeting, particularly significant as Sambhajinagar has been a stronghold of the Shiv Sena for over two decades. However, the seat was won by the Asaduddin Owaisi-led AIMIM in the previous election due to vote splitting. Both the Shiv Sena and BJP are vying for the seat in the upcoming polls.

Marathwada, comprising eight districts and eight Lok Sabha seats, holds strategic importance for both the BJP and Shiv Sena, given their current distribution of seats in the region.

In Akola, Shah will engage in meetings with local leaders and host a roadshow, focusing on the Vidarbha region, which encompasses 11 districts and 10 Lok Sabha seats. The BJP and Shiv Sena share dominance in this region.

Further, in Jalgaon, Amit Shah is scheduled to attend the Yuva Sammelan, expecting substantial attendance from the local populace.

On the second day of his visit, the Union Home Minister will participate in the Indian Global Forum (IGF) yearly investment summit at the Jio World Convention Centre in Mumbai.

Shah's visit assumes significance amidst ongoing discussions regarding the allocation of Lok Sabha seats in Maharashtra. Notably, when the BJP announced its initial list of 195 candidates for the Lok Sabha polls on March 2, no candidates were named for Maharashtra.

Meanwhile, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Ajit Pawar plans to conduct a review of nearly 16 Lok Sabha seats during Amit Shah's visit. The review meeting, to be attended by senior party leaders and office bearers, reflects the NCP's efforts to strategize effectively in light of the impending elections.
