Thiruvananthapuram: Notwithstanding what gender they belong to, all school teachers should be called as 'Teachers', no need to call 'sir' or 'Madam the Kerala Child Rights Commission (CRC) has ordered. That is the suitable term to address teachers respectfully, the order says.
The Commission has instructed the general education department to inform all the schools across Kerala about the order, which was given by a division bench comprising the Child Welfare Committee chairperson KV Manojkumar and member C Vijayakumar.
A Bench, consisting of panel chairperson KV Manoj Kumar and member C Vijayakumar, has directed the General Education Department to give instructions to use the term 'teacher' in all schools in the State.
The CRC also opined that calling out "teacher" instead of sir or madam can help in maintaining equality among the children of all schools and will also increase their attachment to the teachers.
The directive was given while considering a plea filed by a person seeking to end the discrimination while addressing teachers 'sir' and 'madam' as per their gender.
The Commission’s order further read that teachers lead the way to build new societies and terms like sir and madam will not be equal to teacher. By using the term teacher, it will be possible to keep up equality and bring them closer to children. The action report based on the recommendations should be submitted in 2 months, the Commission added.
