Lucknow: The Surajpur district and sessions court in Noida on Tuesday (August 30, 2022) sentenced 65-year-old Akbar Ali to life imprisonment for 'digital rape'. A fine of Rs 50,000 has also been imposed on him. It is being told that this is the first case in the country when an accused has been convicted of 'digital rape' with a 3-year-old girl and sentenced to life imprisonment under section 375 of the IPC along with the POCSO Act.
The incident took place in Salarpur village under the Sector 39 police station area of Noida. Some media reports have put Akbar Ali's age at 75 years. According to reports, Akbar Ali is originally a resident of West Bengal. He had come to Salarpur village in Noida's Sector 45 to meet his married daughter in 2019. Here he brought a three-year-old girl living in the neighbourhood to his house on the pretext of giving her a toffee and raped her. Scared of Akbar Ali's actions, the girl reached her home and narrated her ordeal to her parents. After that, the family reached the police station and lodged a complaint.
Public prosecutor Nitin Bishnoi has said that in 2019, an FIR was registered against Akbar Ali on the basis of a complaint by the girl's parents. Akbar Ali was arrested after a medical examination confirmed rape. Since then, he has been imprisoned in jail. He had filed an interim bail application in the sessions court and the high court, but his appeal was rejected. On August 30, 2022, District and Sessions Judge Anil Kumar Singh convicted Akbar Ali on circumstantial evidence, medical reports, testimonies of doctors, investigating officers, family members and neighbours and sentenced him to life imprisonment.
